static-world-arrivalWhat happens when you arrive¶
Grey grass, a grey sky, and white motes drifting through the air like snow on a dead TV channel. A hiss runs under everything, like a radio between stations. The land looks ordinary enough: plains, a few lone birches, all of them alike. Then you glance at your compass and it is spinning. Nothing here will tell you where you are.
The rule: every instrument lies¶
| What's affected | What happens |
|---|---|
| Compass | Spins. It has given up on north. |
| Clock | Spins too. You can't tell the time. |
| Maps | Show only grey static. |
| Coordinates | Gone from the debug screen (F3). |
| Health, hunger and armor bars | Flicker, jitter and drop out, so you can't read them reliably. |
Days and nights are normal, and so are beds. The only danger is getting lost: there are the usual plains animals by day, the usual monsters by night, and more Endermen than usual, the one mob that already moves like static.
The cure: the Signal Tuner¶
The static comes from Static Crystal, a pale, faintly glowing ore in the stone. Where a face is open to the air it gives off its own little drift of white motes.
- Find Static Crystal. It is common and shallow: about ten small veins per chunk, anywhere from Y 0 to Y 96.
- Mine it with an iron pickaxe or better. It drops
Static Shards (Fortune gives more; Silk Touch keeps the block). - Craft a
Signal Tuner:
Hold the tuner in either hand and the static lifts for you: the compass settles, maps clear and your bars hold still. The coordinates stay hidden from the debug screen even with the tuner. It does nothing in other worlds.
Bring the lead plates with you
The tuner needs two
Lead Plates and a compass from home. Pack them and you can make a tuner within an hour of
arriving. Without them, you'll be crafting plates from galena first.
static-world-crystalWhat to bring home¶
| Find | Where | Why it's worth it |
|---|---|---|
| Veins in the stone (Silk Touch). | A faintly glowing decorative block that sheds white motes. | |
| Mined from the crystal. | The tuner. | |
| Ordinary ores | The usual Overworld ores. | The ground here is normal stone underneath. |
Serum and getting home¶
- The arrival Box's cache holds 2 Serum Ampoules.
- There is no native Serum ingredient.
- The real danger is losing the Box. Your compass can't point home, your map shows snow and F3 won't give you a number. Mark the way before you wander.
Tips¶
- Build a tall pillar or a line of torches from the Box before you explore. Every birch looks the same.
- Watch your hunger and health by feel: eat early, and heal before a fight rather than trusting the bars.
- Craft the tuner first, then explore. It turns this into an ordinary plains world.
- Avoid looking at Endermen; there are plenty of them, and night is dark here.

The traveler's tape¶
Every arrival Box has a chest by its door holding a cassette: the last traveler reading their journal of this world aloud. This is what they say. It gives a lot away.
Read the journal (spoilers)
I have no idea how long I have been walking, because my clock spins and my compass has given up on north. The map I drew on the first day is grey snow now, and when I look inward for numbers, for where I am, there is nothing but hiss. The static comes from the pale crystal in the stone: dig it with iron and it breaks into shards that buzz in the hand. Two shards, a compass and a pair of lead plates make a little tuner, and while I hold it the needle settles and the world is quiet again. Mark the weathered Box well before you wander, because nothing here will tell you the way back to it.
