Other worlds

Every world has its own rules. When you arrive, its name and a one-line summary fill the screen. Browse them all on the Worlds page.

The arrival Box

The first time anyone steps into a world, a weathered Box is built for them near the middle of the world, and they land on its doorstep. Inside, on the Core, lies the world's Serum cache: two ampoules in most worlds. Every traveler who comes to that world arrives at the same Box.

World rules leave the arrival Box alone, and a broken one is rebuilt the next time anyone comes through.

The tape by the door

Beside the doorstep of every arrival Box stands a chest, and in it a Cassette Tape: the traveler who came before you, reading their journal of that world aloud. It tells you the world's rule, its dangers and how they survived. Take it before you wander off.

Play it on a Cassette Player, built at home:

  • Use the player to open it, and put a tape in its slot to load it. Take the tape out to eject it.
  • Press Play to listen and Stop to stop. The journal's text scrolls beside the player while it plays.
  • The recording plays on the Voice/Speech volume slider.

Getting back

Cross over exactly as at home: be Coherent, step into the arrival Box, close the door and wait. It returns you to the Corridor door you came through. From there, walk back to the home door.

Stranded

If your Serum fades in a world, you are stranded until you brew or find more. No world is a dead end:

  • The first visitor finds a Serum cache in the arrival Box.
  • Some worlds grow their own stand-in for a lab ingredient: an active the Synthesizer takes in place of Somnium Powder, or a coolant the Cryo Stabilizer takes in place of ice. Each world's Atlas page in your Traveler's Guide names it, and so does its page on this wiki.

Quests

Many worlds have people with problems, and problems make quests. Your Traveler's Guide lists every open quest, and the compass at the top right of your screen points to your next objective (press J to hide it).

Charms

Some worlds give you something to wear: a charm, a locket, an amulet. Each one works only while it hangs in the charm slot, the square above your offhand slot beside your armor. Drag it there, or hold it and sneak-use (shift-right-click) to put it on. You wear one at a time, and others can see it on you.

Bringing things home

Anything from another world can go in the Separator to become residue for upgrades and stronger Serum (see The lab), and many worlds' blocks make great building material at home.
