skyreach-islandsWhat happens when you arrive¶
Your Box stands on a broad green island with nothing under it but sky. More islands hang all around, from about 104 blocks up to 216, over an empty world. The wind leans on you, as if asking you to jump. Nothing here hunts you. The only danger is the drop.
The rule: the wind carries you¶
Above height 100 the wind never rests. It leans one way for a minute or two, then swings round to another.
| What | How it behaves |
|---|---|
| Wind | Pushes on anything in the air: you when you jump or fall, gliders, dropped items, arrows. Gliding, you get its full force; jumping or falling, about a quarter of it. On the ground it leaves you alone. |
| Updraft Vents | Pale vents of cloud-stone that breathe upward along the rims of the islands. Step on one (or over one, up to 8 blocks above) and you are thrown skyward. Crouch on it to stay put. |
| Falling | Still deadly. But a vent's column resets your fall, so riding one up or dropping down through one is safe. A floor between you and the vent blocks it. |
No monsters spawn here at all: not at night, not in the dark. Sheep and rabbits graze the islands, and Sky Rays drift between them.
skyreach-ventSky Rays¶
Wide, gentle rays that never land. They circle slowly between heights 110 and 200, drifting downwind like
soaring birds, and dart away from anyone who gets within 4 blocks. Each carries 1 to 3
Feather Down.
The Glide Cloak¶
Five Feather Down (two rays' worth), a little string and a scrap of leather make a cloak that rides the wind like wings. It is an elytra you can craft: wear it in your chest slot, jump, and glide. It works in every world, wears out the same way, and is mended at an anvil with Feather Down instead of phantom membrane.
Here, the wind carries a glider at a speed it can still steer, so an island edge becomes a flight if you are ready for it and a fall if you are not. Use a vent to gain height, then let the wind take you to the next island.
What to bring home¶
| Find | Where | Why it's worth it |
|---|---|---|
| Craft it. | An elytra without the End. | |
| Sky Rays. | The cloak, and mending it. | |
| The island rims. Mine with any pickaxe. | Placed at home it is just glowing cloud-stone: the lift only works in Skyreach. |
Serum and getting home¶
- The arrival Box's cache holds 2 Serum Ampoules.
- Skyreach has no native Serum ingredient. Bring what you need, and don't drop your ampoules off an edge.
Tips¶
- Crouch whenever you step near an island's rim, in case there is a vent under you.
- Sky Rays flee at 4 blocks. Approach from below on a vent column, or corner one against an island.
- Watch which way the wind is blowing before you jump: glide downwind, never into it.
- Dropped items blow away. Don't empty your inventory near an edge.
Birds¶
Birds you can photograph for your bird log here. Open one to turn it round, watch it move and hear its call.
- Thermal Kite: common
- Cumulus Albatross: rare

The traveler's tape¶
Every arrival Box has a chest by its door holding a cassette: the last traveler reading their journal of this world aloud. This is what they say. It gives a lot away.
Read the journal (spoilers)
Fifth day on a green island with nothing under it but sky, and the weathered Box I woke beside is the only thing up here that does not move. Above the hundredth block the wind never rests: it leans one way for a minute or two and then another, and whatever glides on it is carried along, so an edge is a flight if you are ready for it and a fall if you are not. Nothing here hunts, so the only danger is the drop, and the pale vents that breathe along the rims of the islands throw you skyward the moment you stand on one; crouch to stay put. The wide rays that drift between the islands carry a soft down that I am not proud of taking, but five pieces of it, a little string and a scrap of leather make a cloak that rides the wind like wings. When you have had enough of the open air, step back into the Box with the Serum still in you and shut the door; it will carry you back to the hallway of doors.
