Antimatter¶
Strange physics
Anything you bring here and set down annihilates.
| Kind of world | Strange physics |

antimatter-arrivalWhat happens when you arrive¶
It looks like home, turned inside out. The hills and valleys have the Overworld's shape, but the grass is the colour of a bruise, the sea is orange, the sky is amber, and the stars never go out. Underfoot the ground hums like two magnets held the wrong way. Before you do anything else, know this: nothing you brought with you can be set down here.
The rule: foreign matter annihilates¶
Any block placed here that was not made of this world's matter vanishes the next instant in an explosion, a little smaller than a block of TNT, and you are told: "That was not made here. This world will not hold it."
| What blows up | What is safe |
|---|---|
| Torches, lanterns, crafting tables, chests, beds | |
| Cobblestone, planks, dirt and anything else from home | |
| The lab machines | |
| Blocks placed by mobs, too | |
| The Box's own panels, door and core (you can repair the Box) |
So: no walls of cobble, no torches, no bed. Build only with what you dig up here. Items in your inventory are fine; it's placing them that's the problem.
antimatter-craterLight and shelter¶
The only light you can safely set down is made from this world:
Antimatter Ore glows on its own. It runs through the antistone from the bottom of the world up to about
Y 120, in small veins, and needs an iron pickaxe. It drops
Antimatter Shards.
Antimatter Lamp: four shards around a block of antistone.
For shelter, dig in. Antistone and antisoil drop themselves and are safe to build with.
What lives here¶
Rabbits hop about the magenta meadows, and Endermen walk at night. Endermen belong to no world in particular, and the blocks they pick up here are this world's own, so they don't blow up.
What to bring home¶
| Find | Where | Why it's worth it |
|---|---|---|
| Mine Antimatter Ore. | A coolant for the Cryo Stabilizer back home: it runs without ice. Also makes lamps. | |
| Everywhere. | Strange-coloured building blocks. | |
| Crafted. | A glowing block. |
Serum and getting home¶
- The arrival Box's cache holds 3 Serum Ampoules, more than most worlds, because you can't set up a lab here: the machines would explode.
- Native stand-in:
Antimatter Shard. Right-click it into the Cryo Stabilizer and it runs without ice, but
you'll have to use it at home. - Your only way back is the cached Serum, so don't waste an ampoule.
Tips¶
- Empty your hotbar of blocks before you arrive, so a stray right-click doesn't cost you a heart or two.
- Bring an iron pickaxe: it's the only way to make light here.
- If the Box gets damaged, you can patch it with Box panels from home without them exploding.
- No bed means no skipping the night. Dig a burrow in the antistone and wait it out.

The traveler's tape¶
Every arrival Box has a chest by its door holding a cassette: the last traveler reading their journal of this world aloud. This is what they say. It gives a lot away.
Read the journal (spoilers)
The sky here is amber, the sea is orange and the grass is the colour of a bruise, and the stars never go out. I set down a torch on my first night and it went off like a charge of powder; so did the cobblestone I tried to wall myself in with. Nothing from another world can be set down here: it annihilates the instant it touches this world's ground, and the crater is all that is left of it. What this world is made of is safe, the black stone, the purple soil and the glowing ore, and four of its shards around a block of stone make a lamp that does not explode. I could not brew a thing, so I lived on the ampoules cached in the weathered Box; it is the one made thing here that does not mind which world it is in.
