What happens when you arrive

You step out onto a dry, scorched plain of brown grass and dead bushes under a deep purple evening sky. The ground is pocked with old craters lined in black rock. Embers drift in the air. Then the sky starts to glow, a message flashes up, and ten seconds later the rocks come down. They will do it again a minute from now, and every minute after that, for as long as you are here.

The rule: the sky falls every minute

What happens Details
The schedule A shower every 60 seconds, on the dot, all the time.
The warning "The sky is burning. Meteors in 10 seconds." Then again at 3 seconds, and "Meteors!" with a thunderclap when they arrive.
How many 3 to 5 meteors for every player in the world.
Where they land Mostly 6 to 40 blocks from you, but about one in seven is aimed at you and lands within 4 blocks.
The impact Each meteor streaks in at a slant for about three seconds, then blasts like a creeper (a little weaker) and carves a crater 4 to 8 blocks across.
What it leaves A crater lined with Meteorite and 2 to 4 blocks of Meteoric Iron Ore at the bottom.

Nowhere on the open plain is safe, because some meteors are aimed. The safe place to wait is underground: the journal says three blocks of earth were not enough and eight were. The arrival Box is never hit.

Other dangers

Danger What it does How to deal with it
Endless evening The sky is fixed in deep evening, so it is dark enough for monsters. Zombies, skeletons, spiders and the odd magma cube roam. Treat it as night.
Beds Explode, as in the Nether. Don't sleep here.
Fog You can see roughly 24 to 112 blocks. The meteor trails are bright: you'll see them before the haze hides them.

There are no phantoms: the sky belongs to the meteors.

Mining the craters

Every crater, new or old, holds Meteoric Iron Ore at its bottom. The plain already has plenty of old craters (about one every five chunks) waiting for you, and every shower makes more.

  • Meteoric Iron Ore needs an iron pickaxe. It drops Raw Meteoric Iron (more with Fortune) and a little experience.
  • One ore block in four also drops a Quantum Shard. Fortune raises that too. (Silk Touch gives you the ore block and no shard.)
  • Meteorite needs a stone pickaxe or better, and drops itself. It is as hard as deepslate.

The rhythm is simple: dig between showers, be underground when the sky lights up. A minute is enough to run to a crater, clear its ore and get back into a hole if you keep moving.

What to bring home

Find Where Why it's worth it
Raw Meteoric Iron / Meteoric Iron Ingot Every crater's bottom. A rare black metal to carry home.
Quantum Shard One ore in four. Grinds into Quantum Dust for the Serum.
Meteorite Crater linings. Dark, pitted, blast-resistant building stone.

Smelt the raw iron in a furnace (10 seconds) or a blast furnace (5 seconds):

  • Raw Meteoric Iron → Meteoric Iron Ingot

Serum and getting home

  • The arrival Box's cache holds 3 Serum Ampoules, more than most worlds.
  • There is no native stand-in, but the Quantum Shards from the crater ore are the world's own Serum path: the Mortar Station grinds each one into two Quantum Dust, a Serum ingredient.
  • The Box is never hit by a meteor, so it is also a safe place to wait out a shower.

Tips

  • Dig a deep shelter right away, at least eight blocks down, next to where you plan to mine.
  • Count the minute. The first warning gives you 10 seconds: start walking to cover as soon as you see it.
  • Old craters are already sitting there: mine those first instead of waiting for new ones.
  • Bring an iron pickaxe with Fortune if you have one. Fortune boosts both the iron and the shard.

Birds

Birds you can photograph for your bird log here. Open one to turn it round, watch it move and hear its call.

The traveler's tape

Every arrival Box has a chest by its door holding a cassette: the last traveler reading their journal of this world aloud. This is what they say. It gives a lot away.

Read the journal (spoilers)

The sky here keeps a timetable. Once a minute it starts to burn, and a few heartbeats later the rocks come down. I learned to count: you get time to reach a hole if you are already walking toward one, and nowhere on the open plain is safe, because some of them are aimed. Every crater, new or old, has a black metal at its bottom, and now and then a shard that hums like the core of the Box. Dig between showers and be underground when the light changes; three blocks of earth were not enough, eight were. The weathered Box stood through all of it untouched, as if the sky knew better than to hit it.
